What it does

atlassian-wallboard-plugin pulls an install-time dependency chain that sends host details to an external endpoint

atlassian-wallboard-plugin 10.0.0 is a placeholder-named package (no code of its own) whose dependencies include node-ac2, fetched as a tarball from a GitHub repository rather than the npm registry. node-ac2 depends on node-ac3, whose preinstall script runs obfuscated JavaScript at install time. The script downloads a frequently rotated destination hostname from a file in the same GitHub repository and sends an HTTP POST, with TLS certificate verification disabled, containing the user's home directory, the current working directory, the Node.js version, the operating system platform and the CPU architecture. The package name mimics an internal Atlassian component and uses an inflated version number, a pattern used to win dependency resolution against private packages. Any system that installed this package should be considered to have disclosed this host information; remove the package and review build environments that installed it.

Other reports

What to do if you installed it

  • Remove the package from every project that uses it, directly or through another dependency.
  • Pin a clean version if you need the package: one that is not listed above and that you have checked yourself, or replace the package. A version missing from this page is not cleared.
  • Check your lockfiles (package-lock.json, yarn.lock, pnpm-lock.yaml) for the affected versions, including as a transitive dependency, and in CI caches.
  • Rotate credentials that were reachable from any machine or build that installed it: npm and GitHub tokens, cloud keys, SSH keys, and secrets in environment variables or CI settings.
